Administrative Assistant

Commitment: 6-10 hours (1-2 afternoons) per week, for a permanent role with a small Jewish Arts organization; minimum commitment one year

Location: On site in Skokie home office, lunch provided

 

Pay rate: starting at $20/hour, paid twice a month; Job training included

Duties:

Assist the Executive Director of the Klezmer Music Foundation.  These responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Making follow-up calls and sending emails

  • Customizing and updating contracts

  • Checking PayPal accounts (will train)

  • Tracking, Packing and mailing inventory

  • Collaborating on grant-writing; seeking out new grants

  • Editing, scanning and filing documents (in physical files, online and in Excel spreadsheets)

 

Should be familiar with (or be trainable in):

  • Email

  • Google Docs and Word Docs

  • Google Sheets and Excel spreadsheets

  • Paypal, Square and other point-of-sale apps (will train)

 

Your skills:

  • Helping to organize and prioritize tasks

  • Strong writing and editing skills

  • Good people skills (when communicating with staff, new leads and clients)

  • Teamwork and efficiency 

  • Attention to detail when editing emails and documents

  • Desire to help a small arts organization stay organized and thrive

Join a small, dedicated staff and contribute to the mission of providing Jewish music programming for concerts, classes, and other events.  You will work with the founder of the organization and of the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band, the Junior Klezmer Orchestra, the Salaam-Shalom Music Project, and several community klezmer bands.  You will assist her in tasks including following up with clients, issuing contracts, filling out grants, as well as clerical work.  Welcome to Team Klezmer!

 

You do not need to be proficient in these skills–we have other staff people who cover them:

  • Graphic arts

  • Constant Contact mailings 

  • Bookkeeping/Quickbooks/Taxes

  • Advertising and PR

  • Computer programming
